Artist, Joy Oxley is a native Vermonter, transplanted in her younger hippie days to Oregon, where she lived for 23 years, growing veggies, flowers, her daughter, Serenity, and beginning the exploration into the art glass world. Joy's glass designs continue to be inspired by the nature surrounding her glass studio in the beautiful Adirondack mountains of Northern New York. Continuous travels around the Country have put her glass jewelry in a few unique art shops such as Glass Magick Designs, New Orleans, Dennison-Moran Gallery, Naples, Florida, Portland Art Museum gift shop, Portland, Oregon, Porterhouse fine arts and crafts, Manchester,Vermont, and the Cornerstone gallery, Willsboro,Ny.
Her unique jewlery is hand sculpted from borocillicate glass rods, worked in a propane/ oxygen fueled flame reaching about 2300 degrees.
Some of Joy's fused glass designs are created by melting layers of dichroic glass(sheets of glass deposited w/ layers of oxides) and colored or clear glass sheets in a kiln, reaching about 1400 degrees. The fused pieces are then shaped into designs using diamond lapidary saws and grinders. Many of the designs, she then marries with sterling silver settings, which she hammers out by hand .
"My love of glass jewelry design began with creating wearable glass art for myself, that is unique, durable, lightweight, with a style of primitive elegance."
